Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers about pricing, production time, shipping, and custom sign requirements.
How are the letters installed?
Most dimensional letters are installed using one of these methods:
- Stud-mounted (recommended): We drill small holes, insert threaded studs on the back of each letter, and secure them into the wall with anchors/adhesive. Clean look + strong hold.
- Flush-mounted: Letters are bonded directly to the surface using industrial-grade adhesive (best for smooth, flat walls).
- Raceway / backer panel: Letters are mounted on a metal/acrylic panel first, then the panel is installed on the wall (great when you want fewer wall penetrations and a neat wiring solution).
We provide an installation pattern/template so spacing and alignment are accurate.
What permits are required for installing a business sign?
Permit requirements depend on your city/county, the type of sign, and whether it’s illuminated or mounted outdoors. Many locations require a permit for:
- Exterior storefront signs
- Illuminated signs (LED, backlit, halo-lit, lightboxes)
- Signs above a certain size or height
- Permanent building-mounted signage
We recommend checking with your local municipality or landlord/property management before installation. If needed, we can share common specs (size, materials, electrical details) to help with your permit application.
What are the materials available for signage?
We offer a variety of premium materials based on your sign type and placement:
- Acrylic (clear, black, white, colored): sleek, modern, great for indoor/outdoor
- Metal (aluminum / stainless steel / brushed finishes): durable and professional
- PVC / foam board: lightweight, cost-effective (mostly indoor)
- LED components: for front-lit, backlit, halo-lit, neon-style, and lightboxes
- Backer panels: acrylic, aluminum composite, or metal panels for clean installs
Material recommendations are based on weather exposure, distance visibility, and brand style.
What’s the typical depth of the letters?
Letter depth depends on the sign type and size. Typical ranges:
- Acrylic letters: ~10mm–20mm (0.4"–0.8")
- Metal / built-up channel letters: commonly 3"–6" depth (more depth = more premium 3D look)
- Halo-lit letters: often 3"–8" depending on lighting and mounting
- Lightbox / cabinet signs: depth varies by design, usually 4"–8"+
We’ll suggest the best depth based on where the sign will be viewed from.
How to ensure minimum visibility during installation?
To keep your storefront clean and safe during install:
- Schedule installation during off-hours (early morning or after closing)
- Use temporary signage (window decal, poster, or stand) during install
- Block only the necessary area and keep walkways clear
- If electrical work is needed, plan for short, controlled power downtime
- Use the provided alignment template to minimize trial-and-error time
This helps reduce disruption while ensuring a precise final placement.
How long does it take to install a typical business sign?
Installation time depends on sign size, surface type, and whether electrical work is involved:
- Small to medium dimensional letters: usually 1–3 hours
- Larger sets / complex layouts: 3–6 hours
- Illuminated signs (wiring/transformers): may take half-day to full-day
- Difficult surfaces (brick/stone/high elevation): can increase time
We always recommend professional installation for outdoor and illuminated signage.
